Home health nurse require a four year RN degree and the passage of the NCLEX-RN examination. You don’t need to have any extra training—just the desire to work independently out of people’s homes.

As a home health nurse, you manage the care of a patient who can’t get out to seek medical care very often and who need services of a home healthcare team, usually led by the home health nurse. The home health nurse acts as a liaison between the patient and the doctor’s clinic and is usually able to do things like urinalysis and blood draws on patients needing in-home evaluation. You can also be responsible for ordering home health aide services, physical therapy, and occupational therapy for the patient and may make referrals to services like meals-on-wheels for people with nutritional deficiencies and who can’t cook meals for themselves.
